Marathon, a long-distance running event, has come a long way from its inception in ancient Greece to becoming one of the most popular sports in the world. The first modern marathon race was held in the 1896 Summer Olympics[1] in Athens, Greece. The women’s race was won by Ethiopian runner, Dera Dida[4], who completed the marathon in a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 11 seconds.
